Tier list Part 5 (2026)
Ball x Pit is a brick-breaker roguelike with a city-building management layer between runs. He finds it very unique and loves the ball fusion and evolution system, which he says is most of the fun. He is less taken with the slow early game, heavy RNG, lack of player control and the tedious hub building. He knows he is in the minority and lands it at B tier, having replayed it after updates without changing his view.
What the creator praises
- Fusion and evolution of balls lets players build their own synergies every run, roughly 80%+ of the enjoyment
- Characters feel different from each other at the start of a run
- Late-game builds are chaotic, satisfying and can one-shot everything
- Each biome has its own music, visuals, enemies and bosses
- Visuals and overall vibe are strong, with plenty of content
- Very unique concept, and short runs (about 15 minutes) let you progress both halves of the game
Issues raised by the creator
- City building and resource management add tedium, with poor information, unclear buildings and stat effects, and weak quality of life
- Pacing is off: early game feels unwinnable without meta progression, and the fun part arrives too late
- Heavy RNG in upgrades, including random numbers of upgrades on evolution, leaves little control over winning a run
- Gameplay is chaotic and idle-like with little skill expression; mechanics like re-catching balls become useless
- Some passives are boring and the hitbox is unclear
- Dual-focus design makes both halves feel weaker than dedicated games
Design observations
- Open-ended ball fusion (any level 3 ball with another) versus fixed evolutions gives players-made synergies
- Brick-breaker combined with hub city building is an unusual genre blend
- Design lesson: games split in two halves often leave each half underdeveloped
Updated opinion
Not a rerank, but he replayed it after recent updates (new characters, balls) and his opinion stayed the same; he also has a separate deep-dive video.
