Roboquest vs Gunfire Reborn: movement, builds and co-op size
For a group of three or four on Steam, Gunfire Reborn is the practical choice: Roboquest supports two players. For solo players or a pair, start with what you enjoy doing between upgrades. Our recommendation is Roboquest for movement-led shooting, and Gunfire Reborn for assembling a hero around interacting bonuses. Both require action skills and build decisions.
Start with your actual group
Roboquest supports solo play and two-player online co-op; Gunfire Reborn supports solo play and up to four players online. Count the host as a player. A regular trio cannot stay together in one Roboquest session.
This comparison covers the PC Steam games and their normal run structure. Online co-op does not imply local split-screen or compatibility between every storefront and console. Check your exact versions before buying copies for friends; this is not a cross-play guide.
Compare an ordinary fight and an ordinary upgrade
Roboquest explicitly builds its combat around running, jumping and avoiding incoming fire. Classes bring their own upgrades, and weapons give those choices a direction. Watch whether tracking a target while changing position looks enjoyable to you. A stationary damage demonstration will not answer that question.
Gunfire Reborn combines hero abilities with weapon inscriptions, Occult Scrolls and hero-specific Ascensions. The interesting purchase question is whether you enjoy checking how these effects support each other. A large printed bonus is less appealing if its condition does not suit the weapon or skill you want to use. This is a way to judge the decision-making, not a claim that movement or aim is optional.
What carries over, and what you must rebuild
Roboquest uses collected wrenches for persistent basecamp upgrades and new options. Gunfire Reborn has Soul Essence and permanent talents alongside its temporary run choices. Neither asks you to learn only through manual skill, and neither preserves a finished loadout as a permanent campaign character.
Look at early gameplay before the strongest combinations are assembled. If the opening fights already feel like an obstacle to reaching an impressive build, extra unlocks may not solve the mismatch. Gunfire Reborn also sells gameplay DLC; check whether a showcase uses paid heroes or weapons before treating it as a demonstration of the base game.
Choose by what you enjoy
| Game | Choose it for | Consider before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Roboquest | Solo players or a duo who enjoy aiming while constantly repositioning. | Two players maximum; energetic camera movement and repeated runs remain central. |
| Gunfire Reborn | Players who enjoy combining hero abilities, weapon modifiers and passive effects; groups of up to four. | Reading conditions is part of the appeal, and some showcased content belongs to DLC. |
Roboquest
Solo players or a duo who enjoy aiming while constantly repositioning.

Choose Roboquest when improving the route through a fight sounds rewarding in itself: finding space, keeping a target in sight and selecting upgrades that reinforce your preferred attacks. Its class synergies still matter; describing it as shooting without builds misses a substantial part of the game.
Before buying, watch an early encounter followed by an upgrade selection. Ask whether you want to repeat the movement even with a different weapon. If you mainly want a stationary firing position or a group of three, it is a weaker fit.
Gunfire Reborn
Players who enjoy combining hero abilities, weapon modifiers and passive effects; groups of up to four.

Choose Gunfire Reborn when a new drop makes you want to inspect your existing abilities and decide what it would strengthen. DarkZero’s review usefully separates inscriptions, Scrolls and Ascensions; our buying advice is to judge whether that chain of decisions attracts you, rather than count the available items.
It also works alone: the four-player limit is an option, not a requirement. Do not select it solely on the assumption that a powerful build will remove the need to dodge, aim or learn enemies. We are comparing preferences, not promising the easier game.
Make the choice before comparing bundles
For three or four friends, start with Gunfire Reborn. For one or two, compare an unexceptional room and the next upgrade screen: would you rather refine movement through the fight, or spend more attention matching the hero’s bonuses? If neither loop appeals without endgame spectacle, postpone the purchase.
Frequently asked questions
Does Roboquest have meaningful builds?
Yes. Classes have their own upgrade sets, and weapon choices and synergies shape a run. Preferring its movement does not mean its build system is absent.
Is Gunfire Reborn only worthwhile in co-op?
No. Its official Steam description supports solo play as well as four-player co-op. Choose solo if you want to set your own pace when reading equipment; the presence of a larger party option is not evidence that solo is inferior.
