About Rogue by Rogue

Last updated:

Rogue by Rogue is an independent roguelike reference, assessment and discovery project. It helps readers compare different kinds of play and find games worth exploring further.

Who maintains this site

Yang operates this project and can be reached at jiaxuz1209@gmail.com or through the public account, X · @roguebyrogue1 ↗. Developers, publishers, stores and publications are sources of information; their inclusion does not imply that they operate this site or endorse its scores.

How our scores work

Our five dimensions are core gameplay (25%), build depth (25%), replayability (20%), fairness (20%) and polish (10%). Rankings use published site reviews only. Games without sufficient evidence remain pending. External critic scores, store sentiment and historical lists retain their source labels and are not converted into our dimension scores.

The full methodology explains calculation, ties, evidence and limitations. A score expresses our judgment under these criteria. It cannot replace your preferences or establish that every platform and game version has been checked.

Research process and AI limits

The initial site reviews are based on AI-assisted research of public sources, not hands-on play. We do not describe that work as firsthand play, performance testing or interviews. The process combines store and developer information with attributed discussions and reviews, then organizes the findings against the five dimensions. Game pages provide supporting references, review dates and recorded limitations.

AI-assisted synthesis can miss context or introduce errors, and third-party sources can become outdated. We distinguish source facts from site judgments and retain available evidence links for readers to check. Some historical records reference internal archives that readers cannot inspect publicly, which limits how fully those conclusions can be verified. Version or platform details without explicit support should be treated as unknown; check the game's official information before buying.

Editorial interests and rights

Archived information, external rankings and our own reviews have different sources and purposes. Paid collaborations, promotional arrangements or interests that could affect a reader's judgment should be disclosed in the relevant content; a site score must not conceal a promotion.

Game names, trademarks, artwork and quoted material belong to their respective rights holders. Attribution does not itself establish permission. Use our copyright and corrections channel to identify a page with a possible rights or factual issue.
