Resumen de la comunidad
Texto original · InglésA stylish isometric action roguelite from Brazilian studio Mad Mimic in which a flamboyant magician trapped in a cursed mirror palace fights through branching runs using a deck of stackable magic cards as his moves.
Texto original · InglésDandy Ace is a well-liked but modestly sized indie roguelite: Steam shows Very Positive (about 87% of roughly 1,300 reviews) and Metacritic PC is 80 from 12 critics, with no negative critic reviews. Critics and players praise the art direction, humor, and the card-slot combat system, and compare it to Hades and Dead Cells while noting it lacks their depth. The recurring complaints are low enemy, boss and room variety, a repetitive narrator, and cooldown-heavy, sometimes clunky combat. It is a released (not Early Access) game, launched on PC/Mac in March 2021 and on Switch, Xbox One and PS4 late 2021; a recent Steam review mentions a late update adding an earlier healing flask to soften difficulty, so it still seems to receive some support. Players who bounce often do so within the first 1-2 hours.
Lo que elogian los jugadores
- Texto original · InglésCard-slot combat: cards fill dash, main attack and special slots in any combination, and each card also grants a secondary modifier effect, which produces a large number of build options
- Texto original · InglésArt style and colour use are the most consistently praised element (Shacknews, Steam reviewers, Metacritic critics)
- Texto original · InglésFast, responsive movement and fluid action feel once a build comes together
- Texto original · InglésHumour, personality and a memorable cast of characters (Cultured Vultures, PC Invasion)
- Texto original · InglésBranching palace routes lead to different boss fights so runs are not identical
- Texto original · InglésShort runs plus three extra difficulty tiers above Normal give replay value for those who like a challenge
- Texto original · InglésFull voice acting and stylish music that add charm for many players
- Texto original · InglésGood value when discounted; several players say it is worth picking up on sale
Lo que critican los jugadores
- Texto original · InglésLow enemy variety, with many recolors and variations, and only around four bosses in total
- Texto original · InglésRooms and scenarios feel samey; route choices make little practical difference
- Texto original · InglésNarrator has a small pool of voice lines, repeats often, and some find the delivery grating (many mute him)
- Texto original · InglésCombat can feel underwhelming or clunky: ability cooldowns make chaining moves hard and enemy density in small arenas is high
- Texto original · InglésSome cards, trinkets and skills are weak or trap picks, so experimenting feels stale and poisons the unlock pool
- Texto original · InglésProgression pacing: players can finish the game before unlocking half the cards and trinkets
- Texto original · InglésMac release problems reported: poor controller support on an M1 Mac and a generic OS cursor instead of the in-game cursor
- Texto original · InglésReviewers compare it unfavourably to Hades for depth, variety and presentation polish
- Texto original · InglésActive skills and passives are unevenly balanced, with some players saying most of them are not worth using and enemies feel strong for the balance
Características distintivas
- Texto original · InglésWeapons are replaced by a four-slot card system where any card can go in any slot and each slot also takes a secondary modifier, rather than a fixed weapon plus upgrades
- Texto original · InglésEven movement (dash) is a card you equip, so you can build around unusual kit such as all dashes
- Texto original · InglésBright, colourful, comedic magician theatre aesthetic, lighter in tone than typical dark roguelites
- Texto original · InglésA live narrator comments on your performance, which is a Supergiant-style device with a comedic bent
Opiniones divididas
- Texto original · InglésDifficulty: some call it brutally hard even on Normal, others find it fair and like the higher tiers
- Texto original · InglésVoice acting and narration: praised as charming and fully voiced by some, described as stiff, nasal or cringe by others
- Texto original · InglésHades comparison: seen as a solid budget alternative by some and a weaker, shallower copy by others
- Texto original · InglésBuild depth: some find limitless card combinations, others find no real strategy beyond making initial cards' numbers bigger
Repetición y obstáculos
- Texto original · InglésRepetitive narrator lines wear out quickly, with multiple reviewers muting him
- Texto original · InglésClearing near-identical rooms of the same small enemy roster becomes a slog, with some levels feeling like a dash to the boss
- Texto original · InglésLosing shards on death makes unlocking cards and trinkets feel slow, while weak unlocks dilute the random pool
- Texto original · InglésCooldown-gated abilities make crowded fights feel restrictive
- Texto original · InglésNormal difficulty is seen as tough by some, with new players needing several attempts for a first win (about 10 runs for one reviewer), though a later update eased the early game
Mejoras esperadas
- Texto original · InglésMake dash a baseline ability instead of consuming a card slot
- Texto original · InglésLet players keep shards between runs, or otherwise speed up unlocks, so progression is not lost on death
- Texto original · InglésAdd more enemy types, bosses and distinct room/scenario types; make path choices more meaningful
- Texto original · InglésRebalance weak cards and trinkets and reduce cooldown friction so combos chain more easily
- Texto original · InglésWiden the narrator's line pool or make him less intrusive; better voice direction for secondary characters
- Texto original · InglésImprove controller support and cursor handling on macOS; Steam forum threads also mention achievement bugs and crashes
Texto original · InglésLaunched March 25, 2021 on Windows and macOS, then Switch and Xbox One (Sept 28, 2021) and PS4 (Nov 15, 2021). Critics were generally favorable: 9 of 12 Metacritic critic reviews positive, 3 mixed, none negative, with scores between 70 and 90. Metacritic user score is only 7.3 from about 25 ratings, so the sample is small. SteamSpy-style estimates put owners at 50k-100k; revenue estimates are around $393k gross (Boxleiter method, rough). Recent Steam reviews (2025-2026) show it is still played and that a late update added an earlier health flask; the Steam forum had open threads about gamepad support, achievement bugs and crashes. A Mac-specific negative review cites controller and cursor problems. OpenCritic numeric score could not be retrieved; the OpenCritic page fetch returned a different game, and web search was unavailable (quota exhausted), so Reddit and deeper outlet text could not be read.

Texto original · InglésTier list Part 5 (2026)
Texto original · InglésDandy Ace is a top-down action roguelike that is essentially Dead Cells with a magician theme, where you escape imprisonment by a jealous rival magician. Its one distinctive hook is card fusion, letting you slot a spare ability as a passive on another piece of equipment. He feels it copied the surface elements of Dead Cells without the depth that makes that game work. Combat is okay but clunky and repetitive, biomes look alike, and there is little left to do after the first win. He still had a good time, beat it on his third attempt, and recommends it to people wanting a different Dead Cells-style experience, placing it in B tier.
Lo que elogia el creador
- Texto original · InglésCard fusion mechanic (using an ability as a passive on another) allows customization and is the game's unique twist
- Texto original · InglésEnjoyable and satisfying once you get comfortable with dashing and learning enemy movesets
- Texto original · InglésFunny story and opening cinematic with a magician antagonist narrating
- Texto original · InglésStrong meta-progression with gems given to NPCs for permanent unlocks and a sense of growing stronger
- Texto original · InglésDistinct biomes with different bosses and a fitting magician theme with magic references
Problemas señalados por el creador
- Texto original · InglésCopied most of Dead Cells' elements without doing much new with them
- Texto original · InglésFusion passives are too simple, static, and do not improve during the run; abilities lack randomized passives, only level differences
- Texto original · InglésGameplay is clunky, slower than Dead Cells, and stiff animation; basic attack gets spammed with no combos
- Texto original · InglésBiomes look too similar and rooms are all just enemy-filled rooms; little sense of adventure
- Texto original · InglésMetroidvania gating is shallow (coloured keys and gates opening similar-looking areas)
- Texto original · InglésNarrator voice lines in every room get to be too much; little content or secrets after first win; off-screen projectiles in late game feel unfair
Observaciones de diseño
- Texto original · InglésCard fusion: slot an equipped ability as a passive onto a new item instead of discarding it
- Texto original · InglésMagician theme could have been pushed further into distinct environments like a circus or Las Vegas world
- Texto original · InglésDesign lesson: cloning a successful game's parts fails without the blend that makes the original work
