Resumen de la comunidad
Texto original · InglésA turn-based tactics roguelite from Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel where you breed mutant cats across generations, equip them with class-based abilities and items, and send them on long, permadeath-flavored runs.
Texto original · InglésMewgenics launched on Steam on Feb 10, 2026 (full release, not early access) to very strong reception: Steam sits around 90% positive (Very Positive, ~54k reviews in the local data) and Metacritic shows a Metascore of 88 from critics with a user score of about 8.1. Critics (Eurogamer Germany, Games.cz, Multiplayer.it, Siliconera and others) call it dense, endlessly varied and addictive, with early game-of-the-year talk; Wikipedia reports over 1 million copies and roughly $23M in the first week. Player criticism concentrates on the meta-layer rather than the combat: house/breeding management has little sorting or filtering, UI and ability descriptions are inconsistent, and Act 3 difficulty and run length feel punishing to some. The developers have kept patching (a 1.1 balance and breeding update, four new languages, console ports on Sept 8, 2026, and a small free update and first DLC in progress), so it is actively supported.
Lo que elogian los jugadores
- Texto original · InglésExtremely deep tactical combat with 1,000+ abilities and 900+ items, producing wild synergies and build variety; players compare it to Final Fantasy Tactics crossed with Magic-style drafting and combo-building
- Texto original · InglésThe cat breeding and genetics layer (mutations, birth defects, inherited traits) creates emergent stories and strange, hilarious builds
- Texto original · InglésSoundtrack widely singled out as a highlight, in some Steam reviews the best part of the game
- Texto original · InglésHuge content volume: 200+ hour campaign, 100+ bosses, many unique enemies that each demand a specific plan; reviewers with 60+ hours say they had seen under a third of it
- Texto original · InglésStrong Edmund McMillen personality: grotesque humour, charming art style, and a true Binding-of-Isaac-style sense of discovery
- Texto original · InglésHighly addictive loop; multiple reviewers describe ragequitting then sinking dozens of hours anyway
- Texto original · InglésActs 1 and 2 are frequently described as engaging and easy to jump back into
Lo que critican los jugadores
- Texto original · InglésHouse and cat management is clunky: no way to sort or filter cats by stat, no simple way to clear accumulating poop, and extra rooms unlock very late
- Texto original · InglésUI problems in battle: easy to misclick, cannot see other cats' items and abilities mid-fight when it is not their turn, and ability descriptions are inconsistent or omit ranges
- Texto original · InglésAct 3 is a difficulty spike; several reviewers say runs turn stressful rather than fun, and losing a run can mean losing cats you spent a long time breeding
- Texto original · InglésHidden or unclear information forces knowledge checks in a turn-based game, which some find fair in Isaac but annoying in a tactics game
- Texto original · InglésSome events offer a trivial upside against severe downsides (for example money versus injuring a cat), which reads as unfair
- Texto original · InglésHumour does not land for everyone: a KonsoliFIN critic called it often grating and dated, and another reviewer called it criminally unfunny
- Texto original · InglésDisplay options at launch: no borderless fullscreen and no 16:10 aspect ratio support, per a popular positive Steam review
- Texto original · InglésHeavy RNG can frustrate players wanting a purely skill-based challenge (noted in critic consensus)
- Texto original · InglésDrafting abilities without being told what you are choosing between or what they do in context, which several top negative reviews cite as poor onboarding for TBS players
Características distintivas
- Texto original · InglésFuses Isaac-style chaotic item roguelite design with a FFT-like tactics grid, a deck-building-flavored ability draft, and a genetic breeding sim
- Texto original · InglésPermanent cat lineages carry traits, mutations and defects between runs, so your breeding house is effectively the meta-progression
- Texto original · InglésEvery cat has a voice and personality, and disorders, parasites and injuries are mechanical features with absurd effects (for example a corpse-eating trait that also eats teammates)
- Texto original · InglésRidiculon soundtrack and performances tie into the marketing, with live Gamescom performance
- Texto original · InglésLong gestation: announced in 2012 as a Super Meat Boy follow-up, cancelled, then rebooted in 2018 with Tyler Glaiel into the current tactics design
Opiniones divididas
- Texto original · InglésHumour and tone: some call it the heart of the game, others find the crude and dated jokes grating
- Texto original · InglésDifficulty and chaos over balance in Act 3: some love breaking the game with synergies, others find the required game-break every run unfun
- Texto original · InglésBreeding system changes in patch 1.1 (stimulation, inbreeding, mutation tweaks): intended as balance and depth but some players say it made management more of a pain
- Texto original · InglésAmount of hidden or discoverable information: praised as Isaac-like discovery by some, criticised as bad UX for a tactics game by others
Repetición y obstáculos
- Texto original · InglésManaging a growing population of cats in the house: clicking through every cat to compare stats, with no list or filter
- Texto original · InglésRuns that last an hour or more, then a long management step after each run
- Texto original · InglésStockpiling items to take into later runs, which some see as a cop-out to justify harder late enemies
- Texto original · InglésGrindiness noted by several reviewers, especially chasing unlocks and finishing the later acts
- Texto original · InglésLosing a run late can erase many hours of breeding progress, which makes Act 3 feel stressful
- Texto original · InglésSorting which items to keep after each run via a large grid with very limited filtering
Mejoras esperadas
- Texto original · InglésAdd sorting, filtering, labeling or renaming tools for cats and a faster way to handle the house (breaking poop, bulk actions)
- Texto original · InglésStreamline the post-run breeding/management loop so it takes less time between runs
- Texto original · InglésImprove battle UI clarity: safer click targets, view all allies' abilities and items on any turn, consistent ability text with stated ranges
- Texto original · InglésLet players preserve or test more items or builds so late-game is not fully at the mercy of roguelike drops and stockpiling broken items
- Texto original · InglésSmooth Act 3 balance and reduce the feeling that hidden content is gated behind borderline annoying runs
- Texto original · InglésBetter display support (borderless fullscreen, more aspect ratios); the developers have since added four languages and console ports
Texto original · InglésFull release Feb 10, 2026 on Windows, with Nintendo Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series versions on Sept 8, 2026 (cloud saves link to Steam; keyboard and mouse supported). Wikipedia reports over 150,000 copies in the first 6 hours and over 1 million copies with about $23M in the first week; revenue-estimator sites returned zero for this title, so treat third-party sales figures as unavailable. Metacritic lists 54 critic reviews (52 positive, 2 mixed), none negative. Steam recent reviews (about 86% positive over the last 30 days) are slightly lower than all-time, consistent with late-game and QoL complaints. Patch 1.1 reworked breeding and stimulation mechanics, altered events and many class abilities; new Japanese, Korean, Russian and Simplified Chinese localisations went live after a beta; a small free update with a new way to play plus the first small DLC are in development. Some minor backlash over certain voice cameos was mentioned on Wikipedia. OpenCritic numeric score could not be fetched (page lookup failed and web search budget was exhausted), so it is recorded as null.

Texto original · InglésTier list Part 5 (2026)
Texto original · InglésMewgenics is Edmund McMillan's follow-up to The Binding of Isaac: a board-centric, turn-based strategy roguelike where you command a squad of cats with very different play styles. He treats it as deserving its hype, with enormous content (100+ hours and he still hasn't hit the true ending), endlessly varied fights, and runs that feel fresh every time. He still has gripes about breeding opacity, shops and equipment restrictions, but they matter less after 100 hours. He calls it an easy S tier.
Lo que elogia el creador
- Texto original · InglésHuge amount of content, arguably more than any other roguelike including Isaac, for the price
- Texto original · InglésEvery board looks different thanks to the many abilities, items and enemies, like shuffling a deck of cards
- Texto original · InglésStrategic depth rewarded by knowledge, with relatively little RNG so skilled players win most runs confidently
- Texto original · InglésGame-breaking combos are hard to earn, so being overpowered feels rewarding rather than trivial
- Texto original · InglésLosing cats does not feel terrible since new ones are easy to get and best cats only go on adventures once
- Texto original · InglésPre-run setup (picking cats, roles, items) takes 10+ minutes and makes the start of each run unique
- Texto original · InglésLong main quest, many side quests and meta progression that unlocks options rather than raw stat boosts
Problemas señalados por el creador
- Texto original · InglésBreeding system is complicated and confusing, and takes too long to teach the player how it works
- Texto original · InglésEquipment placement limits and curses can lock a cool item away from a character
- Texto original · InglésQuestionable quality of life such as pathing that sends cats through spikes
- Texto original · InglésChoice events should let you pick which cat (or between two cats) handles them
- Texto original · InglésIn-run shops are boring, mostly just buying level-ups, so money feels less exciting than in Isaac
- Texto original · InglésInstant-death or run-ruining effects like charm can feel unfair, though they have been reduced
Observaciones de diseño
- Texto original · InglésA completely different genre (turn-based tactics board) from Isaac yet with similar content density and knowledge-driven design
- Texto original · InglésPre-run team building solves the common roguelike problem of repetitive run openings
- Texto original · InglésPermanent cat loss is softened by breeding and easy replacement, unlike punishing losses in Darkest Dungeon
- Texto original · InglésMeta progression is about breeding systems and options, not plain stat upgrades
Opinión actualizada
Texto original · InglésRe-evaluation: he previously made an in-depth review at about 30 hours; now at about 100 hours his early complaints still apply but bother him less.
