Resumen de la comunidad

Texto original · InglésA 2D pixel-art side-scrolling RPG platformer by solo dev Sean Young (SmashGames) with permadeath, randomly generated underground dungeons, combine-any-two-items crafting and local/online co-op.

Texto original · InglésSteam players rate it Very Positive (about 85% of roughly 7.6k reviews) and many describe it as a charming, replayable, challenging roguelite with great music and crafting. The big caveat is that development stopped years ago, and the late updates left game-breaking bugs (final-boss/victory-screen crashes, chicken cooking freezing the game, multiplayer false-loss bugs). A vocal share of the negative reviews are about abandonment and the developer's shift to Roguelands rather than the core design. No professional critic coverage exists (no Metacritic critic score, no OpenCritic entry found); Metacritic has only a small user score (7.3 from 32 ratings). A community fan patch and a 'Rewritten' project keep interest alive, but the player count is tiny (around 12-13 concurrent).

Lo que elogian los jugadores

  • Texto original · InglésAddictive 'one more run' loop: each death leaves you slightly stronger through unlocks, giving clear short-term goals
  • Texto original · InglésCrafting by combining any two items is fun to experiment with and rewards discovery
  • Texto original · InglésHigh replayability through unlockable races, hats, companions and randomised stats/builds
  • Texto original · InglésSatisfying, challenging difficulty with a real sense of accomplishment on beating the final scourge levels
  • Texto original · InglésExcellent music and sound design, plus charming pixel sprites
  • Texto original · InglésCo-op where the run continues as long as one party member survives encourages teamwork
  • Texto original · InglésGood pacing, enemy and map variety; fast, ninja-like movement and combat
  • Texto original · InglésStrong nostalgia and loyalty among long-time players, some calling it a childhood favourite

Lo que critican los jugadores

  • Texto original · InglésAbandoned: no official updates for years, with the developer having moved on to Roguelands
  • Texto original · InglésLate-game bugs that can make the game unwinnable, such as crashes at the final boss or victory screen
  • Texto original · InglésSpecific known bugs: cooking raw chicken freezes the game, forced wolf riding with no jump-off, shopkeeper interaction icon disappearing
  • Texto original · InglésMultiplayer is buggy: false 'all players downed' game overs, players falling through the floor on restart, desyncs
  • Texto original · InglésMultiplayer lacks Steam integration and in-game communication tools, so people rely on third-party workarounds
  • Texto original · InglésMouse cursor flicker bug reported since 2021 and never fixed
  • Texto original · InglésSome players consider it overpriced or mediocre compared to many modern roguelites
  • Texto original · InglésSome unlocks are obscure and hard to figure out

Características distintivas

  • Texto original · InglésCombine-any-two-items crafting as the core progression system rather than fixed recipe trees
  • Texto original · InglésSide-scrolling Terraria/Spelunky-style platforming blended with RPG stats, races, hats and companions
  • Texto original · InglésCo-op permadeath where the run only ends when the whole party is down
  • Texto original · InglésInspired by Monster Hunter and Spelunky per the store description, unusual for a 2D pixel roguelite
  • Texto original · InglésPersistent unlocks (races, hats, companions) that change how each run plays
  • Texto original · InglésActive community-made fixes (MagiciteFanPatches, Magicite: Rewritten) extending the life of an abandoned game

Opiniones divididas

  • Texto original · InglésValue: fans say it is a hidden gem worth it despite bugs, while others call it abandonware to avoid at full price
  • Texto original · InglésDifficulty: described both as infuriating and as deeply satisfying
  • Texto original · InglésMultiplayer: some love the co-op, others find it the most frustrating and buggiest part (and it is local/3rd-party rather than Steam-integrated)
  • Texto original · InglésReviewers disagree on whether abandonment should drag down a game they otherwise enjoy (several negative reviews are explicitly about the developer rather than the gameplay)

Repetición y obstáculos

  • Texto original · InglésRepeatedly rerolling stats until a desirable combination appears
  • Texto original · InglésEarly game feels punishing and opaque until the mechanics click
  • Texto original · InglésWriting down crafting recipes because the game doesn't record them
  • Texto original · InglésHunting for unlock conditions that are not explained
  • Texto original · InglésWorking around broken bugs (shopkeepers, wolf mount) mid-run
  • Texto original · InglésCo-op sessions ending in frustrating false-loss resets

Mejoras esperadas

  • Texto original · InglésAdd a tutorial or early guidance; new players get little direction on doors, recipes or systems
  • Texto original · InglésLet players choose their starting attributes instead of repeatedly clicking 'roll stats'
  • Texto original · InglésSave discovered crafting recipes so players don't have to write them down
  • Texto original · InglésFix the long-standing game-breaking bugs (final boss crash, chicken cooking, multiplayer false losses)
  • Texto original · InglésAdd Steam-integrated online multiplayer and communication tools
  • Texto original · InglésExplain or fix obscure unlocks

Texto original · InglésLaunched June 9, 2014 (Steam, $9.99, Win/Mac/Linux) and built an enduring audience, with a Very Positive Steam rating that has held even as the review count grew past 7.5k. The developer stopped supporting it years ago to work on Roguelands, and players say the final update introduced game-breaking bugs, which fuels many recent negative reviews and some resentment toward the developer. The community is small but still active on Steam forums (matchmaking threads, 'Anyone still plays?' posts), with unofficial fixes like MagiciteFanPatches and a 'Magicite: Rewritten' effort. Metacritic shows only a small user score (7.3/10 from 32 ratings, no critic reviews). Note: my WebSearch budget was exhausted so no Reddit or outlet reviews could be read; Reddit and Fandom wiki fetches were blocked. Estimated sales figures come from third-party models and are not audited; the revenue calculator gave no explicit copy count (price math suggests roughly 200k+ units, but that conflicts with SteamSpy's 500k-1M owner estimate, which likely includes keys, bundles and free copies).

Texto original · InglésTier list Part 1 (2023)

Texto original · InglésMagicite (2014) is an older survival-exploration roguelike where you create a character, get dropped into a world, and explore to gain stronger gear in order to save the world. He was excited to try it because he had played the developer's later game. He respects it as a hardcore, historically influential title but found it slow and grindy, and got tired of it after a short play. He says he would be more likely to play it than Exit the Gungeon, but does not state a tier letter.

  • Texto original · InglésHe got tired of it after playing only a little

Observaciones de diseño

  • Texto original · InglésHeavy reliance on hidden secrets and builds that are hard to discover without outside help
  • Texto original · InglésSurvival-exploration structure with character loss on death, typical of older hardcore roguelikes
