Synthèse des discussions
Texte original · AnglaisA story-driven pixel-art action RPG roguelite by Dead Mage (published by 11 bit studios) in which you rotate through the members of the Bergson family, each with a distinct playstyle, through procedurally generated dungeons on Mount Morta, with optional local or online co-op.
Texte original · AnglaisChildren of Morta is received as a polished, warm, well-presented indie: Steam is Very Positive (about 88% of roughly 23,000 reviews), Metacritic sits at 82 from critics with a 7.9 user score, and OpenCritic at 83 with about 90% of critics recommending it. Praise centres on the family narrative, the narrator, the pixel art and music, and the variety from multiple playable characters. Complaints are about repetitive dungeons and enemies, a grindy meta-progression, kiting-heavy combat, pacing and difficulty inconsistencies, and buggy or unstable co-op. The game is finished and released on PC, consoles and mobile, with DLC (Ancient Spirits, Paws and Claws, Family Fireside Fables), so it is not early access or abandoned. Many players say it plays best in co-op and is weaker solo.
Ce que les joueurs apprécient
- Texte original · AnglaisThe Bergson family story and the narrator: the narration gives warmth and emotional weight to runs and cutscenes, and the family theme is repeatedly called the heart of the game
- Texte original · AnglaisPixel art and animation are widely called gorgeous, with atmospheric music and audio design also praised
- Texte original · AnglaisEach of the playable family members feels different (archer Linda, melee, caster and others), which encourages rotating characters and lets players find a favourite
- Texte original · AnglaisFast, snappy action combat that critics describe as satisfying, with a steady stream of buffs and powers stacking up over a run
- Texte original · AnglaisCo-op, local and online, is described by many players as the best way to play and a joy with friends
- Texte original · AnglaisDying does not lose gold or XP (you are sent back to the family home), and story events fire between runs, so the loop rarely feels purely punitive
- Texte original · AnglaisApproachable difficulty for newcomers to the genre; reviewers call it a good entry-level roguelite and several players report it plays well on Steam Deck
Ce que les joueurs critiquent
- Texte original · AnglaisCombat often collapses into hit-and-run kiting; several negative Steam reviewers say fights lack depth beyond attack, retreat, repeat
- Texte original · AnglaisRepetitive environments and limited enemy and location variety, with the mid-game described as tedious in the Game Critics review and elsewhere
- Texte original · AnglaisGrinding for permanent upgrades and for levelling all characters is a frequent complaint, and the early dungeons can feel punishing until you have upgrades
- Texte original · AnglaisUneven difficulty and pacing: the Corruption fatigue system is seen by some as artificial padding; some characters (tanky melee, Lucy's rooted casting) feel weaker or clunkier than ranged ones like Linda
- Texte original · AnglaisLate-game escort and timed missions were singled out by a critic as ill-advised
- Texte original · AnglaisBugs, co-op instability and controller issues are noted by reviewers and players; long load times also appear in critic complaints
- Texte original · AnglaisStory progression is tied to deaths and run ends, so skilled players who rarely die can skip or scramble dialogue and quests, per a highly upvoted negative Steam review
- Texte original · AnglaisGameplay loop goes stale late in the campaign, and several positive reviewers say the story and replayability are not strong enough to keep them coming back
Caractéristiques distinctives
- Texte original · AnglaisA family-drama narrative wrapper with a narrator, unusual for a roguelite, where the cast develops across runs
- Texte original · AnglaisA rotating roster where the whole family gets bonus traits from levelling every member, pushing you to play them all rather than main one class
- Texte original · AnglaisDeath returns you to the family home with no loss of gold or XP, so the home hub and between-run story events drive the pacing
- Texte original · AnglaisStory told boss by boss with scripted beats between procedurally generated dungeon runs
- Texte original · AnglaisHand-crafted pixel art presentation and cinematic cutscenes that stand out among action roguelites
- Texte original · AnglaisNative local and online co-op built into an ARPG roguelite structure
Points qui divisent
- Texte original · AnglaisSolo versus co-op: fans say it shines in co-op, while many negative reviews say it is mediocre or grindy when played alone
- Texte original · AnglaisDifficulty: some find it gentle and ideal for beginners, others hit early difficulty spikes or sudden hard bosses
- Texte original · AnglaisForced character rotation: praised for variety by some, resented as grind and padding by others
- Texte original · AnglaisReplay value: several positive reviewers finished the campaign and felt no urge to replay, while others sink 30 to 50 hours into it
Répétition et contraintes
- Texte original · AnglaisReplaying the same early dungeons to buy upgrades before you can progress
- Texte original · AnglaisConstant kiting against damage-sponge enemies and elites that resist stagger and crowd control
- Texte original · AnglaisCorruption fatigue system, which limits playing one character and forces rotation
- Texte original · AnglaisEscort and timed missions in the late game
- Texte original · AnglaisNarrator commentary becoming tiresome for some players, and a clunky UI for some
- Texte original · AnglaisLong load times and buggy co-op sessions
Améliorations espérées
- Texte original · AnglaisMore variety in enemies, biomes and dungeon layouts so later runs differ more from earlier ones
- Texte original · AnglaisDeeper combat with more reasons to stand and fight rather than kite, including better balance across family members
- Texte original · AnglaisLess grindy, more meaningful meta-progression, and more run-to-run build variety so power-ups change how you play
- Texte original · AnglaisProgression and story pacing that adapts to players who advance faster than the designed skill curve, plus an option to go back and power up before hard boss fights
- Texte original · AnglaisBetter co-op stability and sync, clearer UI, and more reliable controller support
- Texte original · AnglaisClearer enemy attack telegraphs and more forgiving dodge and ability queuing, raised by struggling new players
Texte original · AnglaisLaunched September 3, 2019 on PC to strong critical reception (Metacritic 82, OpenCritic 83) and later came to PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and mobile. Steam shows roughly 1 to 2 million owners by SteamSpy estimates and estimated gross revenue of about 2.76 million dollars (net about 0.81 million) on a Boxleiter-method calculator, which is order-of-magnitude only and covers Steam only. DLC includes Ancient Spirits, Paws and Claws and Family Fireside Fables. Developer is Dead Mage, an Iran-based studio. Recent Steam reviews mostly repeat the same co-op, kiting and narrator themes, and some mention Steam Deck as a good fit. No major controversies found.

Texte original · AnglaisTier list Part 1 (2023)
Texte original · AnglaisChildren of Morta is a pixel-art action roguelite where you play a whole family, picking one member per run as you delve dungeons to save the world. He loved the family relationships, the story between runs, and the cute art. The gameplay felt only okay and got repetitive, with grinding needed to unlock the abilities to progress. Levels became boring and effects were hard to read. He thinks it is a good game that he experienced once, and he places it in B tier.
