Synthèse des discussions
Texte original · AnglaisA top-down action roguelite by Arrowfist Games in which you play a bioengineered 'Bioshell' inside a microscopic viral world and turn enemy projectiles (and your own) back on enemies by deflecting them.
Texte original · AnglaisDeflector is well liked but niche: Steam shows 87% positive (Very Positive) from roughly 355 reviews, and the few critics who covered it were positive (Keengamer 8/10, Nine Over Ten 9/10, NaviGames 9/10, GameGrin 90). Praise centres on the deflect mechanic, build variety, the soundtrack and the Hades-like visual polish. The recurring complaints are a thin story, a fairly conventional roguelite loop and a lot of systems to track. It launched in Early Access on Jan 27, 2022 and hit 1.0 on Mar 24, 2023, with Switch and Xbox ports from Sept 2023 (PS4 listed on Metacritic). Its audience is small (estimated 20k-50k owners, about $113k gross), so there is little large-scale community discussion beyond Steam.
Ce que les joueurs apprécient
- Texte original · AnglaisThe deflect mechanic turns bullet-hell defence into offence: bouncing projectiles back at enemies, sometimes for huge damage, feels satisfying and skill-based
- Texte original · AnglaisReal build variety from a free-form upgrade/mutation system where skills combine (for example clones, duplicated deflected shots, ground rupture)
- Texte original · AnglaisMultiple Bioshell characters with different weapons and deflect behaviour, from the starting boomerang-wielding Eradicator to ranged and melee options
- Texte original · AnglaisStrong soundtrack, praised by reviewers and Steam players
- Texte original · AnglaisPolished stylised visuals, compared favourably to Hades in early coverage
- Texte original · AnglaisFast runs and non-linear path choices (combat, shops, rest areas) keep the pace brisk
- Texte original · AnglaisRuns well, including on Steam Deck, with full controller support and plenty of achievements
Ce que les joueurs critiquent
- Texte original · AnglaisStory is barebones: a cool premise in the intro with little elaboration afterwards
- Texte original · AnglaisCore roguelite structure is seen as conventional; critics say it does not reinvent the genre beyond deflection and setting
- Texte original · AnglaisSome players call it a clunky Hades-like without enough of its own hook
- Texte original · AnglaisToo many systems and modifiers to keep track of for some newcomers
- Texte original · AnglaisEnvironment variety was criticised in early access and choosing locations had little gameplay impact
- Texte original · AnglaisOnly the starting character is available at first, so the early hours limit playstyle choice
- Texte original · AnglaisMetacritic user reviewers (only 7 ratings) cite repetitiveness and limited enemy variety
Caractéristiques distinctives
- Texte original · AnglaisDeflection as the core verb: you can reflect enemy projectiles and your own weapon shots back for damage
- Texte original · AnglaisMicroscopic viral setting where you play as a prototype cure, with 'Apex Virus' bosses ending each world
- Texte original · AnglaisPitched by the developer as Diablo meets bullet hell, blending ARPG build crafting with bullet-hell patterns
- Texte original · AnglaisFree-form skill combination system in which upgrades stack into unexpected effects
- Texte original · AnglaisHub with research modules and DNA/mutation progression that persists between runs
Points qui divisent
- Texte original · AnglaisOriginality: some critics and players call it a fresh take on bullet-hell roguelites, others say it does nothing special beyond deflection
- Texte original · AnglaisComplexity: many enjoy the deep build-crafting, while others feel overloaded by what they must track
- Texte original · AnglaisValue: a Metacritic user complaint mentions a steep price drop shortly after launch, which soured some buyers
Répétition et contraintes
- Texte original · AnglaisGradual unlock of Bioshells and mutations requires repeated runs before the game opens up
- Texte original · AnglaisKeeping track of numerous upgrades, modifiers and interactions is tiring for some players
- Texte original · AnglaisStory and objectives give little incentive to push on for players not hooked by the combat
- Texte original · AnglaisRuns can feel repetitive with limited enemy variety (Metacritic user ratings, small sample)
Améliorations espérées
- Texte original · AnglaisFlesh out the narrative and world beyond the opening (raised by early access and 1.0 reviewers and Steam players)
- Texte original · AnglaisMake location choices matter more to gameplay, not only to level progression
- Texte original · AnglaisAdd more visual and environmental variety across worlds
- Texte original · AnglaisGive clearer objectives and clearer explanation of the many systems and modifiers
- Texte original · AnglaisUnlock additional Bioshells faster or more clearly so early runs have more variety
Texte original · AnglaisMetacritic has no Metascore yet (needs 4 critic reviews; GameGrin 90 and KeenGamer 80 are listed) and its user score of 4.1/10 rests on only 7 ratings, so it is not meaningful. OpenCritic lists 4 reviews but no aggregate average on the page (scored ones average about 7.6/10). Early Access coverage from But Why Tho and Rock Paper Shotgun was unscored and positive about the mechanic and visuals. 1.0 launched Mar 24, 2023 on Steam ($19.99, Windows only), followed by Switch and Xbox in Sept 2023. Steam review volume is low and recent reviews are still positive; SteamSpy-style estimates put owners at 20k-50k and gross revenue at about $113k (Boxleiter-based estimate, order of magnitude only). The game was also offered via a free demo (Specimen Zero) on Steam.

Texte original · AnglaisTier list Part 2 (2024)
Texte original · AnglaisDeflector is a straightforward top-down action bullet-hell roguelike whose twist is a deflect button that differs per character and only works on red (and yellow) bullets. He finds the core gameplay very fun, clear and readable, but feels its late-run pacing suffers from multiple waves in large levels and that it lacks content and unique events. He hesitated between high B and low A and placed it at the top of B, saying an update could easily push it to A.
Ce que le créateur apprécie
- Texte original · AnglaisVery readable, fast-paced gameplay with minimal mechanics and simple color-coded bullets
- Texte original · AnglaisEach character's deflect is different and characters play very differently
- Texte original · AnglaisViable build paths: defensive, basic-attack or deflect-focused, despite modest upgrades
- Texte original · AnglaisBosses are good
- Texte original · AnglaisSmart difficulty scaling: four fixed worlds, choose three, each run gives worlds unique downsides so you must play all of them
- Texte original · AnglaisPettable creature adds charm
Problèmes relevés par le créateur
- Texte original · AnglaisLater runs have multiple waves per level and large maps, hurting the otherwise fast pacing
- Texte original · AnglaisHunting the last stray enemy in a corner slows things down even with a guiding arrow
- Texte original · AnglaisToo few unique encounters; mostly shop, challenge and little else
- Texte original · AnglaisWants more mini-bosses, elites and general content, more bosses after finishing all characters
- Texte original · AnglaisUpgrades are not hugely impactful; focus is on core gameplay over builds
Observations sur la conception
- Texte original · AnglaisPer-character deflect mechanic restricted to certain bullet colors keeps the concept simple
- Texte original · AnglaisDifficulty scaling via per-run world downsides rather than flat enemy stat increases
- Texte original · AnglaisGameplay-first design as the opposite approach to item-driven games like Binding of Isaac
Avis actualisé
Texte original · AnglaisNot a re-rank, but he says it could move from top of B to an easy A with a good content/pacing update.
