Synthèse des discussions

Texte original · AnglaisA Hades-style isometric action roguelite from Afterburner Studios in which you play Cassidy, alternating between building relationships in the waking city of Redhaven and fighting nightmares in procedurally generated dream dungeons, with a story centred on anxiety, isolation, grief and loss.

Texte original · AnglaisDreamscaper is well liked by both critics and players, with a Metacritic critic score in the low 80s (80 listed on Steam for PC, 82 on the Switch Metacritic page, 12 reviews, 92% positive) and a Steam rating of Very Positive (about 88% of roughly 3,200 reviews). The praise clusters around the acrobatic dodge-heavy combat, the build variety, the painterly dream visuals, the soundtrack, and an emotionally sincere mental-health story. The recurring reservations are the daytime overworld (dialogue, crafting and gifting felt like padding to many), combat balance and clarity, and a rough start for new players. Metacritic user score is noticeably lower (6.8 from only 28 ratings), which reflects a small, more divided sample. The game went through Early Access before its 1.0 release on 5 Aug 2021 and players mention later patches (such as 1.1) that nerfed overpowered leech effects; there is no sign it was abandoned. Steam lists it as Windows-only, with console versions covered by the Switch critic reviews.

Ce que les joueurs apprécient

  • Texte original · AnglaisFluid, dodge-centred melee combat with weighty acrobatic moves; critics called it fun and rewarding
  • Texte original · AnglaisLarge amount of build variety from weapons, dodges, shields, elemental affinities and artifacts, so runs feel different (players mention fire/lightning/water combos such as extinguish crits)
  • Texte original · AnglaisEmotionally sincere story about anxiety, grief and loss; several reviewers (including But Why Tho) called the mental-health focus well done and powerful
  • Texte original · AnglaisStriking painterly, surreal dream-world art and atmosphere
  • Texte original · AnglaisSoundtrack widely praised as atmospheric and non-repetitive over long sessions
  • Texte original · AnglaisThe day/night structure ties narrative to mechanics, with relationships unlocking permanent upgrades (critics cited the synergy of story and roguelike loop)
  • Texte original · AnglaisGood pick-up-and-play pacing: players like being able to do a floor and save after bosses, and a difficulty ramp that can be raised after the first clears
  • Texte original · AnglaisCalmer, cosier alternative to Hades for people who want a lower-pressure action roguelite

Ce que les joueurs critiquent

  • Texte original · AnglaisThe waking overworld is the most criticised part: NPC dialogue felt slow, cringey or skippable to many players, and some called the dialogue the weakest element
  • Texte original · AnglaisCombat balance: life-leech / heal-on-hit effects are regarded as far stronger than other stats even after a nerf, and some weapons and moves feel clearly worse than others
  • Texte original · AnglaisSome players find movement and combat clunky or slow, with attacks lacking punch compared with Hades
  • Texte original · AnglaisVisual clarity problems: busy effects and sparkles make it hard to tell important items or telegraphs from decoration
  • Texte original · AnglaisEnemy variety wears thin over long playtimes (one 60+ hour reviewer called enemies samey)
  • Texte original · AnglaisStory and characters outside the core emotional themes were called simple or forgettable by some players
  • Texte original · AnglaisConfusing onboarding: several negative reviews say the tutorial bombards you with controls and mechanics and leaves you without direction

Caractéristiques distinctives

  • Texte original · AnglaisDay/night loop: daytime social exploration of Redhaven and nighttime dream dungeons feed each other, with relationships giving permanent power
  • Texte original · AnglaisDirect, personal treatment of mental health (anxiety, isolation, grief) that is rare in action roguelites
  • Texte original · AnglaisBosses are embodiments of emotions such as Isolation, Fear and Loss
  • Texte original · AnglaisLucid powers that let you manipulate the environment and surreal artifacts in the dream levels
  • Texte original · AnglaisNintendo Life summed it up as lacking originality in genre terms but making up for it in heart

Points qui divisent

  • Texte original · AnglaisStory and mental-health themes: some players say it pulled them through hard times and is among their favourites, while others find it depressing, shallow or heavy-handed
  • Texte original · AnglaisCombat feel: praised as smooth and weighty by critics, called clunky or slow by some Steam reviewers
  • Texte original · AnglaisComparison with Hades: some call it a relaxing Hades-like, others say it is not like Hades at all and does not hold up to it
  • Texte original · AnglaisControls: at least one PC reviewer felt it was designed for controller and played poorly with mouse and keyboard (Steam lists full controller support)

Répétition et contraintes

  • Texte original · AnglaisOverworld conversations and gifting/relationship chores that many players skip without feeling guilt
  • Texte original · AnglaisCrafting described as pointless by a 100%-completion reviewer
  • Texte original · AnglaisGrinding weapons up and hunting for completion, which some enjoy but others find repetitive (the same player enjoyed the weapon grind but not the rest)
  • Texte original · AnglaisDungeon layouts and encounters repeating immediately after a failed run, cited by a new player as frustrating
  • Texte original · AnglaisEarly difficulty spikes and being thrown out after a scripted first boss loss for unprepared newcomers
  • Texte original · AnglaisSluggish movement and slower pacing compared with Hades-style peers
  • Texte original · AnglaisThe grind: a positive reviewer calls it insane, and a negative one dislikes that run unlocks and purchases vanish when a run ends

Améliorations espérées

  • Texte original · AnglaisBetter onboarding and tutorial: negative reviewers describe being overloaded with controls and mechanics early and not being told about dodge and mana
  • Texte original · AnglaisClearer in-game guidance or map for the overworld, since some players report getting stuck with no direction
  • Texte original · AnglaisRebalance leech and other dominant stats and underperforming weapons and moves to make more builds viable
  • Texte original · AnglaisImprove combat feedback and readability (punchier hits, clearer audio and visual telegraphs)
  • Texte original · AnglaisMake the overworld relationship and crafting systems less padded or more optional/skippable, and tighten the writing
  • Texte original · AnglaisSmooth the early difficulty curve

Texte original · AnglaisLaunched into Early Access before the full 1.0 release on 5 Aug 2021 on Steam (price $24.99, developer Afterburner Studios, publishers indie.io and Maple Whispering Limited). A long-time Steam reviewer who followed Early Access mentions that patch 1.1 prompted them to restart, and another notes a recent nerf to leech effects, so post-release balance support is visible. Critics scoring the Switch version were 92% positive with no negative reviews; Nintendo Life's take was that it deserves more attention than it received, hinting at a modest commercial profile. The Metacritic PC score (80) and Switch page (82) differ slightly; the critic sample is small (12). I could not retrieve an OpenCritic score, and revenue and owner figures are third-party estimates, not audited numbers. Steam is Windows-only with Steam Cloud and full controller support. Note that Steam shows a 2020 to 2021 span because of the Early Access period.

Texte original · AnglaisTier list Part 2 (2024)

Texte original · AnglaisDreamscaper is a story-heavy action roguelite split between a hub world, where you explore a city and befriend NPCs, and dungeon runs. PepperHead is impressed by its visuals, mood, theme and the care put into the outside-world content and unlocks. His problem is the gameplay, which he finds slow, repetitive and low on animation cancelling. He hasn't finished it but wants to go back for the story, and he lands it in the middle of B tier.

Ce que le créateur apprécie

  • Texte original · AnglaisVisually impressive, with great care put into aesthetics, theme and mood
  • Texte original · AnglaisMysterious story that is slowly uncovered through the hub world
  • Texte original · AnglaisHub world with NPCs and conversations that build character and story
  • Texte original · AnglaisPlenty of roguelite unlocks: new abilities, stats and rooms
  • Texte original · AnglaisMechanical variety such as dash, bow, spells and slowing down time
  • Texte original · AnglaisBosses look awesome and are cool to fight

Problèmes relevés par le créateur

  • Texte original · AnglaisGameplay is slow-paced, with animations that take a while to trigger
  • Texte original · AnglaisLittle animation cancelling, so you can get hit mid-spell
  • Texte original · AnglaisRepetitive: same first world and same few enemies on restart made him bored within hours
  • Texte original · AnglaisFew bosses, with the same boss each world
  • Texte original · AnglaisGameplay doesn't match the effort put into content and aesthetics

Observations sur la conception

  • Texte original · AnglaisHeavy story focus with a dedicated hub world for a roguelite
  • Texte original · AnglaisOutside-world effort drives the roguelite progression and unlocks
  • Texte original · AnglaisDream-themed visual identity that stands out
